How we got here.

We started with one truck and a stack of expired permits.

By year two we'd missed enough renewal dates to learn that trucking software is mostly built by people who've never driven a truck. Renewal calendars sit in spreadsheets. Filing services charge $1,200 for what's really a $30 form. Brokers pay in 60 days. None of that works for an owner-operator running on slim margins.

So HAN became three things instead of one:

• An active motor carrier running our own trucks under MC authority — that's the trucking part.
• A freight broker, because the shippers we built relationships with kept asking us to cover more lanes than our fleet could handle.
• A compliance back office, because once you've filed your own MC, BOC-3, UCR, IRP, IFTA, 2290, MCS-150, and Drug Consortium five times, doing it for other carriers is straightforward — and they need it.

And then FleetScan, because at the end of all that I still missed a cab card renewal.
